Totteridge Gallery In Earls Colne

Totteridge Gallery, Earls ColneThe Totteridge Gallery trades from a historic Grade 2 listed building in the heart of the north Essex village of Earls Colne.

The shop front which houses the gallery was added to the old timber framed farmhouse that lies behind in 1902.

The farmhouse itself dates from the 14th century, with 17th century additions, and reputedly includes remnants of the original 13th century open hall, and is considered to be one of the oldest buildings in the village.

Totteridge Gallery, Earls ColneAs for the commercial history of the building, a confectionery, tobacco and stationery shop was located in the premises for most of the 20th Century.

Then, for some time during the 1990s, the building housed an antiques shop.

In the late 1990s planning permission was granted to replace the original 1902 full length display windows with the panelled type front that can be seen today.

Totteridge Gallery opened for business in Earls Colne in December 2004, having previously traded in London.
