Frederick Donald Blake was a painter in oil and watercolour, and a designer and etcher. Studied at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts and Goldsmiths' College London. Drew commercially for many years, and for the Ministry of Information duing WW2. Eventually gave up commercial work to paint full time. Was elected RI and RSMA, was President of the Wapping Group, and a member of the London Sketch Club and Chelsea Arts Club. Noted for his watercolours and the use of clay covered paper which allowed for novel techniques, especially in the portrayal of textures. |
