Harry Freckleton

Harry Freckleton was a painter in oils of flowers, still lifes, landscapes, and children. Attended Nottingham School of Art, 1904-1912, his teachers including Herbert Wilson Foster. Was influenced by local painter Arthur Spooner. He became an Associate of the Nottingham Society of Artists. Followed his father as a photographer and ran a photographic business from 1924-1965. Harry Freckleton exhibited 7 times at the Royal Academy between 1949 and 1959, and also exhibited at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and Royal Society of British Artists.

Children Playing in a Garden

This painting is of the children of Harry Freckleton's next door neighbours in Mapperley Park, Nottingham.

It was painted around 1958, when the children were aged about 9 and 6 respectively, and shows them playing in the garden of his bungalow. The painting was a gift to their parents from the artist.
