Edward Ardizzone1904 - 1993
He became an apprentice lithographer, then turned to illustration, starting with cinema posters and illustrations for the magazines Autocar and Motor Cycle, and later moving onto comics.
He is best known for his comic work, and he drew series for The Beano and TV Comic amongst others, and designed comics in a realistic style.
During the Second World War he worked for the Ministry of Information on books and posters for propaganda, information and morale boosting purposes.
In 1970, Roland Davies left the comics field and devoted his attention to painting, creating nostalgic city street scenes, marine and cowboy pictures.
